knowledge for music and the arts.
Music and the theory of art has been the primary influence on Otha's life from an early age. Creativity
was passed down to him from his mother, who is noted as a writer. As a child he was musically inclined;
playing several instruments including the violin.
Born to a military family in Athens, Georgia, Otha lived in several locations in the U.S. and in Bermuda.
Most of the young artist's upbringing was spent in Jacksonville, Florida. While the majority of his youth
was spent creating visual arts, it wasn't until high school that he began to focus more on music and spent
over 10 years as a recording artist/producer. During college, his love for music developed into a full time
passion, and ultimately, he forged ahead and pursued a career in the music industry.
Upon moving to South Florida in 2005, Otha began an internship at one of the country's most successful
independent Urban labels, Slip N Slide Records, which would alter life's course greatly. Quickly moving
up the corporate ladder from an intern to a Product Manager and A&R Executive, Otha has played a
major role in the label's continued success of over 20 million in sales. It was also during his six-year
tenure with SNS that he started his own production company: Vakseen LLC.
With a company specializing in A&R Management, Production/Songwriting, Artist Development and
Brand Marketing, Otha's successful business presented an opportunity to relocate to Los Angeles in 2011.
Partnerships with major record labels like Atlantic, Def Jam and EMI have granted the company and it's
clients the opportunity to work with platinum recording artists like T.I., Rick Ross, Sean "Diddy" Combs,
Jagged Edge and Wiz Khalifa, to name a few. The production work done with Atlantic Records' T.I.
garnered a Grammy nomination for 2008's "I'm Back".
While music has played the driving force in his business career, Otha's passion for the arts has served as
his key to sanity in the fast paced entertainment industry. Drawing inspiration from relationships,
emotion, music, life and the African American experience, his mixed medium works have been
showcased and sold throughout the Southeast region.
"I grew up overweight...so I wasn't always the most confident. Sometimes you can't find the words to
express your innermost feelings and art has always served as an emotional release for me....in the same
vein of Like Water For Chocolate. The pencil, paintbrush or whatever medium I use is simply an
extension of my deepest thought and desire at the time. I think that's why I love the heavy contrast of
black and white images so much...there's so much emotion displayed. At the same time, I love the way
colors pop and grab your attention. Both mediums allow me to grab a hold of your senses and suck you
into my world...even if just for a brief moment."
